Third ITele©t Competition Final
14/05/2009
Tomasz Rogala, a fourth-year law student at Łódź University, has won the third ITele©t Polish National Telecommunications Law, Intellectual Property Law and New Technologies Law Competition.
The final was held on 14 May 2009 at Warsaw University's Kazimierzowski Palace. The standard of the work submitted was rated highly by the judges, particularly the solutions to Case No. 4, the subject of which was problems associated with a trade mark. The winner, who presented the best solution to that case, was awarded an academic grant worth PLN 10,000 and the possibility of a paid internship at the Firm.
Besides the main prize, the judges decided to award three distinctions to:
- Marta Dudkiewicz of the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn for her solution to Case No. 2;
- Zbigniew Pinkalski of Kraków's Jagiellonian University for his solution to Case No. 4;
- Piotr Suski of Kraków's Jagiellonian University for his solution to Case No. 4.
All those who were awarded distinctions are fifth-year students.
The prize-winners were all given the possibility of a three-month paid internship at the Firm, book awards funded by C.H. Beck publishers, and one-year access codes to the NetTax base.
The ITele©t competition promulgates knowledge on telecommunications law, intellectual property law and new technologies law. It involves resolving one of four cases which are prepared and assessed by lawyers with expert knowledge of the electronic communications market. The judges evaluate the entries from the perspective of a demanding client who expects the lawyer's solution to be supported by logical arguments. The aim of the competition is to prepare students to practise their chosen profession, and the ability to see a case problem in business terms is therefore highly regarded. Points are also awarded for convincing arguments, a clear justification of the thesis presented, identification of laws and past judgements, and a suitable choice of literature.
